Something Must Be In The Water...

Something must be in the water... I feel like every time I get on facebook someone is announcing they're pregnant! Although Miguel and I are not in any hurry to have kids any time soon, I am so excited for all my pregnant friends! To celebrate I have been making some little gift baskets. I put homemade onesies and a pregnancy journal in the basket.

I bought plain white onesies in early month sizes. They were each only $2.

Next I drew out a picture of an alligator and then traced it on stencil maker.

Then I put it on a cutting board and used an exacto knife to cut it out.

Thennn I used some fabric paint and a foam brush to fill in the stencil on the onesie. I had to make sure to put something on the inside of the onesie so that the paint wouldn't bleed through.

When you're using a stencil it's important to not have very much paint on the brush. I blotted it on some plastic before applying it to the shirt.

Finally, I pulled off the stencil and used some orange paint to add some detailing. I used blue and orange because one of the couples are Florida fans.

I also made a giraffe one.

Finally I made a pregnancy journal to keep a record of milestones and memories. I took a plain journal and covered it with yellow card stock.

Then I cut out a onesie out of some heart paper.

I used some cardboard to make the onesie cutout pop a little from the journal. I cut two small strips and used a hot glue gun to attach them to the cutout. Then I attached the cardboard pieces to the journal.

Ugh, I know I need to get my nails done BAD!

Next I took some blue ribbon and tied it into a small bow. Then I glued that to the cut out.

To top it all off, I took some striped paper and made two boarders along the top and bottom of the journal. On the inside flap I wrote a bible verse and a message to one of my sweet friends.

Here are the finished products all together:

I rolled up the onesies and tied them with some yellow, polka-dot ribbon.

I took a small basket and placed the items in it. Then I used some cute animal ribbon and tied it around the basket. It happened to have alligators and giraffes on it! What luck! =)

So that is my solution for a celebration gift that is thoughtful (homemade) and inexpensive. I hope all my friends who are mommies to be enjoy their baskets!
