Jack: One Month Update

So Jackson has been part of our family for one month already! The time has seemed to fly by because we've been so busy. However, Jack has really seemed to settle in well! Here are some things we've learned about Jack in the past month:
  • He is scared of rain. He won't go outside if it's raining. One time we were driving home and had Jack in the car. During the ride home it started to rain. Once we got home Jack flat out refused to get out of the car. Miguel had to lift him up and carry him inside.
  • He loves to eat grass.
  • He isn't completely potty trained. This is a big bummer. It's not from a lack of taking him outside often. I take him out about every hour. He just hasn't learned how to communicate to us when he needs to go out. Sometimes when he's outside he is much more interested in playing than doing his business.
  • He is a stinky boy! That puppy can produce smells that shouldn't be possible! And he is totally not ashamed of his poots. When Emma toots she gets frightened and looks ashamed... Jack, not so much. He is such a boy.
  • He isn't the brightest of dogs. But what he lacks in wits he completely makes up for in desire and willingness to obey. We can let him out in the back yard without a leash.
  • He loves people and likes to jump on them when they first meet... despite our many "no"s and "down"s.
  • Every morning when I take him out of his crate he bites my wrist and tries to walk me to the back door.
  • He wouldn't bark if Emma wasn't barking. Even when Emma barks and Jack joins in it is soft and he looks confused like he's not sure if he should be barking at all.
  • Jack wants to be with all the time. Emma doesn't go through doors that are cracked open. Jack on the other hand pushes every door open to try and get to you. I can no longer use the restroom alone.
  • Jack LOVES the car! Almost every time I take him outside he goes straight to the car door and then looks back at me, wagging, as if to ask, "where are we going?". He always sticks his head out the window whenever we roll it down, no matter how fast we are traveling.
  • He doesn't like to share cuddles with Emma. If I'm on the ground giving Emma some loving, Jack will barge his way in and push her out of the way and then lean on me.
  • He loves to play with Emma, but at the dog park he can be a little shy.
  • He goes in his crate without any struggle or fight. We say, "go to bed" and he goes straight in.
  • He likes to sleep underneath my feet.
  • He never whines or whimpers when he is in his crate... unlike Emma ;)
  • He is a cutie patooty and and I can't imagine life without him in it now!

Sarah Came to Visit Me!!!!

Miss Sarah F came to visit me for a few days! So much fun! I needed girl time and miss hanging out with my buddy =)

Sarah got here Thursday afternoon. We spent some time chatting then headed out so Miguel could study for his test without the noise of giggling girls. Sarah and I went to dinner at Cha Bella, one of my favorite restaurants in Savannah. Sarah and I both got the Vegetarian Fettuccini with roasted sweet potato, parsnips, leeks, and carrots with a caramelized onion marsala cream. It was really good... besides the parsnips. I will definitely get that again. Which is saying something, because their filet is really good, and I almost always order a filet.

After dinner we went to Jen's & Friends. We both tried the Savannah Bee Vanilla martini. SOO good! I don't think I will try another variety again. I'm sticking to this drink!

After drinks we went to River Street and then up to Rocks on the Roof to see the views. Afterwards we met up with some friends and hung out for a bit before we went home and crashed into bed. It was a little cold once the sun went down and we were happy to get into warm beds.

It is March... Brrrr

Friday morning Sarah and I woke up intent on heading to the beach. We put on our suits and cover ups before going outside. Ummm... yeah it was freezing! It was only like 67°. We took the dog to the park and ate some lunch downtown, then decided it was too cold to A) go to the beach and B) stay in our bathing suits any longer! So we headed home and took naps! Ha.

Emma had to sit on Sarah's lap on the way to the park.

We did eventually peel ourselves out of bed to go check out Bonaventure Cemetery. You may know of it as it was featured in the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Sarah has family buried there. It was pretty neat to have a connection in such a historic place.

Bonaventure is so large! And Sarah is soo small!

Friday night we went to the Crystal Beer Parlor for dinner with some friends and then to Savannah Smiles.

So apparently Sarah's first memory of me is from high school where I told her I had a special talent of tying my hair around my nose and it would stay. Yes, I don't know why she is friends with me.

Sarah trying to be as cool as me...
I don't feel as special now... Sarah could finally do it

Saturday we slept in a bit, force fed Sarah some espresso (because she had never had it before!), and then headed to the beach!

Cuddles in the morning!

The boys played football
I had a big hat =)

This kid worked on his sand hole the whole time we were at the beach. That thing was deep! He was around the age of ten, so he wasn't that short.
Pretty day, it was warm, but not in the 80's like last week.

After hanging at the beach for a while, we packed up and headed home to shower and then head back out. We spent the afternoon/evening cooking out at Jason's place. We took the corn hole and played some, in between rain showers. Poor Miguel got stuck standing in the rain grilling. We had loads of yummy food. After Jason's we stopped by a friends to try their moonshine they were distilling. I had a glass of wine... Miguel told me horror stories about people going blind when they drank moonshine.

"Miguel, STOP eating!"
Sunday we slept and chilled while Miguel went to his flag football games. He got stuck out in Pooler while he waited out some pretty nasty storms. We got a lot of lightning and hail.

So sad Sarah's visit came to an end! Love her and loved having her to visit!

My Favorite Place

Every day my mom takes me to the park for a walk. It's right down the street from my house. I love the car ride there. I stick my head out the window... it's great to be a dog. Even though I am just tall enough so that my head barely fits out the window.

But this is an improvement from how I used to insist to ride in the car...

... which was in the lap... of the driver.

This is the trail we walk on. It's a mile long and just enough for me to get my energy worn down for the afternoon!

The trail makes me a very happy puppy! Except for when I see my enemy... the very dangerous and aggressive POST! I make sure to growl and bark at it every time I remember it's there.

Some days my mom will take me to this big field next to the trail... I love this because I get to get off of my leash and run in huge circles.

Some days I get to go to the park twice. Dad will sometimes go with mom and me when he gets home from work!

Dad runs with me. It's much more fun to play with dad because running with him is more of a challenge (I can run much faster than mommy) and he plays longer (mom says she needs to get in better shape).

Oh my goodness! I love the park!

But now that it's fall I've been finding some interesting distractions. There are these things called pine cones and they're all over the place. They are like free toys! I will pounce on them and then sit down to chew on my prize. Sometimes this seems much more interesting to me than walking.

Free toys are great... especially when you do this to all your store bought ones...

One a side note... I think I have replaced my love of being under, with my love of being with.
