Parents Visit to Savannah!!!

My parents came to visit Miguel and me this past weekend! I was so excited! I miss my parents a lot. This was my Dad's first visit to our new home. He had visited Savannah before, but a long time ago. He was surprised to see how big the city was. He had pictured it more like Augusta, so it was really fun to show him around.

Friday night Miguel and I took my parents to one of our favorite restaurants, Bonna Bella Yacht Club. We really like Bonna Bella because it doesn't attract tourists and has a really laid back feel. It is also a gorgeous setting! It looks out onto the water and people drive their boats up, dock them, and then come eat. We enjoyed watching the sun set while we ate dinner. All four of us got the fish tacos. Yum!

Holy cow! The moon was SO pretty. It was HUGE and bright orange!  This is obviously not the best picture. But I had to try!

After dinner we went down to the beach and walked out onto the pier. The moon and it's reflection on the water was one of the prettiest things I've seen! It was pretty cold when the sun went down but I wouldn't have missed it!

Saturday morning we all participated in the Humane Society's Dog Lover's Walk. Afterward we walked around Savannah. We showed my parents City Market, Broughten Street, River Street and the area where we are looking for houses. We went to another one of our favorite restaurants, Zunzi's, for lunch. The weather was SO nice that the line was longer than usual. Everyone loved the food. We knew they would.

Love the Savannah horse cops!

After lunch we made our way to The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist. We stopped by the 18th and 19th century cemetery. I love the history in the cemetery. It's so interesting to see how people lived and what events where happening during the time of the deceased's death. When we got to the Cathedral there was a really fancy wedding going on, so we obviously couldn't go in, which was a disappointment. However, the walk was fun and my parents got to see a lot of the pretty city and the squares, etc.

Very natural, not posed at all.

Button Gwinnett! The father of the county I grew up in!

Look! Flowers are blooming! Yay for Spring!

This wall houses all the headstones that have fallen down or have become misplaced.

I thought this headstone was neat because it has a skull and crossbones! I wonder if this guy was a pirate?

My favorite church! So pretty!

On the way back to the car we stopped by Leopold's. My mom and I got sorbet (boo dairy in ice cream) and my dad got a milkshake. We all love old soda shops. We also liked seeing all the Hollywood memorabilia.

For dinner we went to a BBQ place on Whitemarsh Island. It is very well reviewed so we decided to check it out. OMG! SOOOO good! We were scared when we got there around 8:00 and most of the items were already sold out. Miguel, mom, and I got the pork and it was so good that it didn't need any sauce at all. I am looking forward to going back soon!

Sunday morning we slept in a bit and then took the dogs to Fort Pulaski. The water was at high tide so there was no beach to let the dogs run around on. Which was okay since my parents didn't really want wet, smelly dogs in the car for the drive back to Atlanta. We put the dogs back in the car then headed into the fort to check it out.

BIG boat heading out to Charleston.

The sun was hidden behind clouds and it was really windy, so everyone was a little cold.

Under these hills are tunnels where they kept the magazines

I loved the old doors around the fort

Dad firing the canon.

Spiral stairs... I kept thinking about the soldiers who would have hustled up and down during battle.

My mom pointing out Hilton Head Island, you could see it from on top of  the fort.

Pretty, but cold, mommy!

The Confederate soldiers put their flag back up during battle!

The design on the flag is what would have been flying during the Civil War.

When we were heading out, a tour started and we got a little distracted listening to the guide.

After we left Fort Pulaski we went down to Thunderbolt to have brunch at Tubby's. Even though it was a little cold, we sat outside up in the tree. We ordered lots of coffee which helped us warm up, and the sun came out later which helped too. While we waited the boys played corn hole. Dad won! =) My mom and I ate crab cake benedict and the boys had shrimp and crab omelets. We ate well!

Brr! It was in the 70's yesterday! What happened?

After lunch my parents packed up and headed home. Pout! I really loved having my parents come visit! There's nothing like your mom and dad to make you feel loved and safe! Can't wait to see them again!!!

Dog Lovers Walk!!!

This past Saturday my family and I participated in the Humane Society Dog Lover's Walk! It was so much fun and we helped raise money for orphaned puppies. Thanks to all who gave so generously! My parents came down from Atlanta and brought their dogs, Bailey and Luke, to walk in the event as well. Bailey did especially well considering we left her muzzle at home. She normally doesn't take well to other dogs, but we had no problems Saturday morning! Good job, Bailey! Luke was a little overwhelmed with the whole situation. He never really barks but let out a few deep woofs due to nerves. Emma just wanted to go! She zig-zagged back and forth and really didn't like her gentle leader.

There were three lengths we could walk and we chose to do the shortest of the three. This was in part due to the fact that the gnats were awful and biting a lot. I wore shorts and really itchy legs are very uncomfortable!

Bailey got to ride in the middle with my mom and me... she likes to look out the windshield.

Emma and Luke before the walk started.

Some of the adoptable dogs who participated. I wanted to bring them ALL home!

This is the church where we all met to start the race. I thought it was just so beautiful!

Loads of people participated! Yay! That means lots of money was raised!

Right before the race started

I love this picture because it shows how fast the brown puppy's tail is wagging.

My dad and Bailey.

The Landings, where the walk was held, is so beautiful!

Happy dogs!

Oh Lord. This dog had gotten a new dress and her nails done for the walk.

Savannah is so pretty! And the weather was perfect!

My mom and Luke and Emma and me.

After the walk finished we stopped by the agility course to try and teach Emma some new tricks! We got some information about a place here in the city where Emma can learn to do agility courses. She is very smart and quick so I think she could do really well at them. Teaching her to do this would also give us an activity to do, which gets me excited since much of my days are filled with nothing to do.

The agility course.

Good girl, Emma!

Emma didn't like the seesaw. Apparently it is the hardest to learn because it scares the dogs.

This viszla new how to do it!

We had a great walk and rest of the weekend. New post to come soon about my parent's visit!
