Friends, Football and Fun Times

This weekend a friend from back home in Atlanta came to visit! It was good to have some girl time. Lauren and I went out with Miguel and some of his buddies Friday night. We ate at a Cha Bella. They serve organic and seasonal food. YUM! They have a sweet potato cocktail that I really want to go back and try. Another day! It was also fun because there was a party of patrons also dinning there who were dressed to the nines... I'm talking tuxes and ball gowns with a limo waiting outside.

Lauren and me at the bar at dinner waiting for the rest of the group to arrive.

After dinner we went to a local, hole-in-the-wall martini bar, Jen's and Friends. They have over 100 martinis ranging from the classic dirty, to a nerd-tini, PB&J, and anything you can think of. Lauren stuck to a Pink Lemonade and I tried the Reeses, Snickers, and Caramel Apple. I could drink tons of the caramel apple one! They even stick a lollypop in it! We hung outside with our drinks for a while. Interesting part of the night was when a random guy started chatting with us. I had never met an anarchist before... interesting conversation to say the least.

The boys, being good sports, they didn't really want to pose for this picture...

After drinks at Jen's and Friends we went to another bar. Lauren and I were pretty tired so we headed home and just let the boys have their fun. Since Lauren and I were going to have a girls night, Miguel spent the night with a friend downtown. The next morning Lauren and I got up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the beautiful day. While we were sitting at the dog park, a guy without a dog showed up wearing large basketball shorts, a fraternity shirt from Tuskegee and black dress socks and shoes. After making some snard comment on his choice in outfit, I realized it was my husband. Ha! The dogs didn't discriminate over his attire though.

The three of us went to lunch at Zunzi's and ate very well. After lunch Miguel and Emma went home and Lauren and I went shopping. We went to Broughton street and City Market. The weather was beautiful and loads of people were out shopping and enjoying Savannah. We even ran into Lauren's kindergarten teacher at one of my favorite stores, The Paris Market. I may have to devote a whole blog post to this store next week.

I'm a Southern girl through and through, you will not see a blue yankee hat on my head!

We did the touristy thing, which I enjoyed. We got some fudge at the Savannah Candy Factory and Lauren got a Christmas ornament and a bathing suit cover up.

After going home to take a nap for a while, Lauren and I went to dinner. Or I should say, Lauren treated me to dinner at Uncle Bubba's. Uncle Bubba's is one of Paula Deans restaurants and I had heard good things about it. We had wanted to eat downtown or by the beach, but it was insanely foggy and the temperature had dropped so much that it was too cold to eat outside.

Sunday morning we woke up and hung around the house until it was time to go to Miguel's first flag football game of the season. Lauren and I stocked up on Capri suns and oranges for the boys. Aren't we good team moms? I think I may have gotten sunburned, but I am just so damn happy that the weather is summery that I don't care! Emma came too. She mostly hung out in the shade of the bleachers, but cheered on her dad whenever she remembered.

Things I'm Obsessed with Right this Second: Round 2

Things I'm Obsessed with Right this Second: Round 2

Read about the deal here
The library! I should take advantage of the library way more. This morning I went to pick up some books about photography and dog agility training. When I was walking in I got a call from my mom and I told her what I was doing. She told me she had read in the paper yesterday morning that each library branch in Georgia received a video about the Atlanta Zoo and if you checked it out you would get four free tickets to the zoo! Yay! Today was the first day the event started and I was the first one to check out the DVD. However, you only have seven days to have the dvd checked out and only seven days after that to go to the zoo. So I don't know if we'll actually make it to Atlanta in the next few weeks to take advantage of that, but I sure hope so! Four tickets would have cost us $84.00, so it would be a shame not to use them! And the zoo just had a new baby panda, Po. So you know I want to go see that bundle of white and black, fluffy cuteness! Anyways, besides the zoo dvd I also got some photography books, some gluten-free cookbooks and a book on CD for driving around in the car. They didn't have any books on dog agility. But that's okay. The internet works too.

The Library Rocks!

The Outlander Series. There are a couple of books and series of books that never get old to me. I can read them over and over again. Some of them include, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Mark of the Lion Series (READ THEM!), The Shopaholic Series, and the Outlander Series. I haven't read the first of the Outlander books in over a year and a half, just enough time for the details to be fuzzy. I own all the books in the series but I just picked up the first one on CD to listen to in the car. I am so excited! It's historical fiction. I love the history in the book. It's set in the 1700's in Scotland. I think I would have liked to have been celtic. Something about the people and place speak to my soul. Thanks to my mother-in-law for introducing the series to me!

Babies! January and February seemed to be the baby birth month for all my friends on facebook. Facebook, being what it is, lets me obsess over precious babies whose parent's I would label as only "acquaintances". But some friends who I know more personally have had babies too. I've always been scared around babies, afraid I may break them. So I was nervous when I held a friend's baby a couple of weeks ago. However, after two nano-seconds I fell in love with him! He was so teeny and precious, I just wanted to gobble him up and put him in my purse to take him home. Another friend just had a baby boy and he is equally as precious! My friends make beautiful babies! I wish I could post some pictures of these cuties but I don't know how they would feel to have their newborns plastered on the internet without their permission. Just imagine heaven wrapped in a tiny bundle and you will get the idea.

House Hunting! Searching for a home is a fun adventure. I've learned a lot, but still have so much to learn! In some ways being a homeowner seems really daunting. It's going to be a bigger responsibility and a large financial investment. But it's been really fun to me to go into houses and imagine it being our first home. Picturing our lives in different places is fun. I'm not letting my heart get invested in any more houses until we're under contract though! I don't want to get uber disappointed again. We've found the area we want to live in though, and that's a relief. The area is called Ardsley Park. The homes are close to downtown Savannah, were built between the 1920's and 1940's and have tons of character. Miguel and I think they're great for a first home and we're excited to put our touch on the one we purchase!

Glee! If you've never watched this show, give it a chance! I'm obsessed with it! There is too much awesomeness to describe in words. I love watching it and texting my mom during the show. More specifically, I love the character Brittany! I could quote everything that Brittany says over and over again!

Mr Shuester: "What's a duet?"
Brittany: "A blanket."

Ha! I love her! Anyways, I'm loving Glee and I don't see that changing anytime soon! Seriously, rent the first season and get ready to kiss your Tuesday evening plans goodbye!

Sunny days! The weather is beautiful and warm and it just puts me in a happy mood! Flowers on trees are starting to bloom and the earth is looking more green. I feel like skipping!

That's all for now!

Blessings to all!

Puppy Class Week One

Emma started her puppy beginner obedience classes today. We're taking them once a week for the next six weeks at Carol's Pampered Pets. After we 'master' the obedience classes we want to try our hand and paws at agility classes! Emma did really well today! She is highly motivated by treats. We learned to sit, go down, come when called, do figure eights while heeling, and come when distracted. We need to practice at home this week, but she responded really well already! I'm a proud mommy!

Waiting for class to start. I was the youngest one there by at least 15 to 20 years

Someone was a little excited! wag, wag, wag!

Emma with the trainer, showing the other dogs how to do it! Good girl, Emma!

After class we went and looked at some houses and then went to the dog park. Had to take a picture of this poor little puppy with casts on his back legs. Poor thing! Shouldn't have been at the park!
