This week I asked my mom to write a guest entry! She is the person who brought the love of dogs into my life! Dogs are a big part of her life as she spoils the family dogs, Luke and Bailey, and volunteers as a placement specialist with Adopt-A-Golden Atlanta. Enjoy!

Hello from Atlanta and Emma's Gramma! Laura has honored me by asking me to write a guest entry in Emma's blog. What fun!

Here at our house in the ATL, we are busily prepping for Thanksgiving. It is going to be MUCH fun, with lots and lots of people and activity! Yay! I began cooking yesterday, with the super help of Emma's Uncle Luke, Aunt Bailey, and Aunt Puff. They are great helpers in the kitchen - always willing to clean up spills and crumbs on the floor, and they are happy to be taste-testers, too. They'd even wash the dishes for me if I'd let them, but doggy-tongue-wiped plates are not my idea of clean -
Laura's sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Jared, come in from Seattle tomorrow - hooray! Just so you know, Seattle is WAAAAY too far from Atlanta. We haven't seen S&J since July, which is WAAAAY too long, so we are pretty darned excited that they are going to be here this week. They have to leave Milo, my grandkitty, in Seattle (where, BTW, it is supposed to SNOW today - what's up with that?) and have hired a kitty sitter for him while they are away. Fortunately for them and for Milo, kitties are far easier to leave alone at home than dogs - right, Emma? "WITH" is very good if you're a dog.

Then on Wednesday, Laura's grandfather (my father-in-law), Bob-Bob, arrives from Florida. He has just completed a regimen of chemotherapy and radiation for lung cancer, so he is going to brave one of the worst travel days of the year and fly, not drive, to ATL. We all hope he doesn't have to get "patted down" in the new TSA way. But, if he does, we know he'll have a great story to tell! We are very thankful to have him with us to celebrate. I know he is really looking forward to meeting Emma!
And Laura, Miguel and, of course, EMMA come in Wednesday, too. We are very sad that they can't stay with us this visit, as Uncle Luke recently had a bout of kennel cough and is still contagious (though we are glad to say that Luke is all better!). You might think that Savannah is very close to ATL, and that we see Laura, Miguel and Emma all the time. Um, not so much. Savannah is also too far away, but at least we can drive there. Still, we haven't seen L&M&E nearly enough lately. We'll look forward to seeing L&M on Thursday, along with Laura's Gramma (my mom), Uncle Pete (my brother) and his girlfriend Linda. Add in Laura's daddy Brad and myself, and it will be a tableful! Cannot wait!

I do hope you have read Emma's previous post on helpful holiday hints. We have had some interesting animal holidays, like the year we gave Aunt Bailey lots of turkey pan leftovers - which she thoughtfully left for us later that evening, all over the carpeting on our stairs and basement. We had to replace the carpet.... And then there was the year Aunt Puff decided that the silver bread basket, festively lined with a roll cover, was just the right size for a kitty bed. Appetizing!

I hope that you have a most wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by the pets and people you love best; if you do, you'll have much to be thankful for, as we do!
Thanks, Emma, for inviting me to share your blog!
