Destruction and My Family

Miguel's Phone is just a little broken

Destruction hit our household yesterday. First, I bought Emma a "tough-chew", no stuffing alligator. The poor guy only made it a couple of hours. And second, Miguel walked in the house last night pouting and then handed me his cell phone. He dropped it right outside the front door. Now I have two sad members of my family. Emma doesn't understand why she can't eat the plastic that was inside the alligator and Miguel has to be careful not to get little shards of glass in his eyes and face while he makes a phone call...

You Can't Tell How Deep A Puddle Is Until You Step In It

"You Can't Tell How Deep A Puddle Is Until You Step In It"

This week that quote has multiple meanings for us. First, it's quite literal. It rained a couple of times in the past few days and so created a lot of wetness. I took Emma to the field at the park next to our house Tuesday. It was incredibly muddy. And of course, Emma wanted to play in the mud, and in the mud only. It was not any fun trying to get her back on a leash and I got really muddy and wet as well. And then today, Wednesday, I took Emma to the dog park to try and avoid the wet field. The dog park was a major bummer. Not only was Emma the only dog there, but it was puddly as well. And again, Emma loved every minute of the park while she was playing in the puddles. She had to bring her toys into the mud and also tried to dig in it. Then after Emma was all wet, she decided it would be a great idea to go dig a hole to get dry dirt all over her wet body. And following tradition, she then had to sit in said hole.

So much fun to splash around!

Empty Dog Park =(

Got to bring my tennis ball into the slush.

Emma tried very hard to dig a hole in the puddle

Dig, dig, dig, dig...

... dig, dig, dig, dig....
Ah, happy doggy.

And the seconding meaning to that quote is less literal. Miguel and I made an offer on a house today. I love this house! It's in a part of Savannah that I really like. Just driving around the area makes my soul dance a little. I love the energy. I think I really missed the energy of people while living on the islands. The thing about the house is that it was built in 1924. And while I love the historic details of the house it could turn into a money pit. We definitely want to avoid that! So after we hear back about our offer (which I'm sure will get countered) and if we end up getting the house, it will be interesting to see how inspections go. So... if you could all say a prayer for us and our house situation, we'd very much appreciate it!

I love the historic details of the house, like the original hardwood floors, the old french doors, and the crystal door knobs!

Super Bowl Sunday

Some of the ladies: Me, Elizabeth, and Steph

We spent all day Sunday at a friend's apartment to celebrate Super Bowl game day. We were literally there for ten hours and obviously couldn't leave Emma crated that long so she came to the party too. She was really well behaved (yay!) and only got off her leash once when someone let her out. She ran away to go to the bathroom in private but came back and everything turned out okay. But after that we just tied her up to trees and lamp posts so she felt close but was in no danger of getting hit by a car.

Emma was helping the boys grill.

The weather was really nice Sunday, which was great because we spent a lot of time outside. We grilled, threw the football, and played corn hole out there. It was one of those days where you are very aware and thankful of living in the South as opposed to the North where there are still snow banks and having a shoe-less day outside in the sun isn't going to happen.

Grilling the brats after boiling them first in beer.

Jason and Miguel... Miguel borrowed Liz's sunglasses.

And I borrowed Jason's sandals because I wore heels like a fool.

The boys cooked brats, burgers, short ribs, and a pork loin. It was so yummy. One of the best parts of Super Bowl Sunday is the food! And yesterday I took a day off from not eating dairy and gluten... it was a bit of a risk, but I actually feel fine today, with the exception of being a little fatigued... but we also didn't get home until after 12:30 am... which is REALLY late for us these days, ha.

Thanks for grilling guys!
Yummy seven layer dip!

Jason made a killer pesto bread! Nummy!!!

I spent wayyyy too much time hanging out at the counter...

Besides the food, one of the highlights, for me, was when the boys entertained some of the kids in the apartment complex by playing corn hole and football with them. It was really sweet. They were so good with the kids and you could tell how much the little boys loved the attention. Miguel and Mike played a quick game of tag football with two of the kids and the little boys took it sooo seriously. It was precious.

We matched!

And of course Emma made friends with the little boys too.

After the sun started setting and we had gotten our fill of some yummy food we went inside to start watching the game. Jason was really kind to have us all over to his house. Of course we all ended up making a huge mess. I think almost everyone spilled something at some point.

Brandon's sad face for spilling, again.

"Miguel what time is it?"
- Miguel turns his hand to read his watch... with a full cup in his hand. And that's how a whole full cup got spilled

At six thirty when the game stated, Elizabeth decided to take a power nap.
She ended waking up a while later because she was cold. After adding a blanket and getting tucked in she was happy and comfortable... for a while.

... until Emma accidently tailed a drink off the coffee table right onto Elizabeth's face.
Thanks for being such a good sport about it Liz! Emma's sorry!
By the end of the night, the steam vac had made an appearance
But besides the spills, the night went really well and everyone seemed to have a good time! Emma was the only one who didn't seem to have the best time =( All the noise and cheering really scared her. Halfway through the third quarter we put her in the car to distance her from the crazy noise. It was way past her bedtime and she enjoyed the quiet time to sleep.

Miguel got some cuddles from Liz because she was more accessible at the time.

Mike, Brandon, Miguel, Tim, Kevin, and Jason... notice no girls took part in this halftime game.

"Mom... why is everyone yelling?!?"

Steph and Tyler
It was great that the team Emma and I were cheering for won. But hands down the best part of the night was what came on AFTER the super bowl! All the girls and Jason stuck around in the living room to watch GLEE while everyone else went into the other room to play play station or something. Psh.  All-in-all fun day with good friends!

GLEE!!!!
