Puppy Updates

I feel like I haven't blogged about the dogs in a while so here are some updates about what has been going on recently.

Emma and Jack are getting along great as always. They are so happy to have each other and watching them play together really does bring so much joy to my heart! I miss my one on one cuddle time with Emma (Jack doesn't like to share attention) but I know they are so much happier playing together.

A couple of weeks ago I took both dogs to a local pet store to get caught up on all the vaccines. There were so uber excited to go out and see other people and other dogs, oh my! However, after taking both dogs by myself, I don't think I'd ever do that again without Miguel. What a mess! Jack especially was a handful. He wanted to say hello to EVERYONE by jumping on them. This is not allowed, obviously, but he hasn't quite learned that yet. To complicate things more I was using a connected leash so Emma was pulled with Jack wherever he decided to lunge at the moment. Emma did not like this because she was more interested in trying her very hardest to eat the cats that were there.

Notice how twisted the leash is...

Jack did just fine with his vaccines. He wagged and licked the vet and technician. Emma, however, struggled and struggled and struggled. She was not happy camper!

Jack's favorite thing has to be riding in the car! If we ever pick up our keys or make a noise that sounds like it might be keys being picked up he dashes over to you and looks up with those big brown eyes, wide smile and wagging his tail a million miles per hour! Sometimes when Jack is being stubborn and doesn't want to come inside when we are calling him, we will open the car and let him jump in just so we can catch him to bring him inside =) Emma likes the car as long as we stay off the highway and are going for short trips. They both try to help us drive if the car windows are up.

If we are going on long trip Jack ends up sleeping most of the way, but Emma freaks out! We have to keep her in the backseat but she tries her hardest to get up in the drivers lap. So much so that she will stand on Jack if he sits on the left side. =)

Poor Jack ;)

Emma is so bad on long car rides that we finally had to get a prescription for her. We tried over the counter dog anti-anxiety pills,  Benadryl, and Dramamine but nothing worked. This stuff works much better. Poor Emma! She really tries her hardest to keep her eyes open, but it definitely is a struggle! She looks so stoned! Haha! Bless her little heart!

So funny story about Jack and the car. I so wish I had a picture to accompany this story! Miguel ran to the post office to pick up a package before Christmas and took the dogs with him in the car. We always roll up the car windows so the dogs can't get out... because some dogs (Jack, of course... it's always Jack) have been known to jump out. While Miguel was standing in the long holiday line at the post office, a woman ran in and said, "Someone's dog is climbing out a car." Miguel thought to himself, "It can't be my dogs because my windows are rolled up". Then the woman announced that the dog was climbing out the sunroof of a cream colored car. Miguel dismissed this because his car is white not "cream". But once they started describing the dog Miguel thought it would be best to go out and just make sure it wasn't Jack. When Miguel got out to the parking lot he was greeted by Jack who was standing on top of the car with a confused look as he was contemplating the best way to get down. =) I just laugh at that image! Miguel put Jack back in the car, shut the sun roof and went back into the post office to a round of applause from all the waiting customers! Jack is so silly! I love that puppy!

Like I said earlier in this post, Emma and Jack are best friends, but Jack does not like to share! Emma used to sleep on her doggie bed every night. Then It turned into sharing it with Jack:

Then it turned into Jack and Emma sorta still sharing...

But now Emma sleeps under the bed...

Haha, poor thing! I just think it's so cute that she sleeps under the bed. She always like to be under even when she was a puppy. And of course now Jack has returned to putting himself to sleep in his crate. I guess the dog bed has lost its appeal now that Emma doesn't care to sleep there anymore.

Well that's all I can think of dog-wise at the moment! Hopefully Jack will calm down some in 2012, but I won't love him any less if he doesn't! Fingers crossed though! ;)

Under is Good... for Jack too

If you have been reading my blog since the beginning you will know that Emma loved to be under. I would mention it in most of my entries about her. I even wrote a post all about how much she liked to be under. Well, seems like Jack likes to be under too. He likes to sleep under my legs, under the top of the coffee table and now he and Emma have discovered they can get under the bed. They are pretty cute!!!

YIKES! Help me!

Okay, time to be candid. In the past 10 months I have gained 20 pounds. 20 pounds! Holy Cow! This has happened because, #1 I have low thyroid and haven't been taking my meds (easy fix - thank God), and #2 because I don't handle change very well and this has been my body's reaction to all the stress. After looking at pictures of me from the past couple of months and being terrified, I have FINALLY decided to do something about it. So for the first time in months, I went to the gym today. UGH! I am soooo out of shape! I refuse to be discouraged though! It may be slow going, but I can do this! I have a week to get my heart rate back in shape, at least back in shape some what. I have a week because next Monday Miguel and I have our first soccer game. Yes, soccer game. I have n.e.v.e.r played soccer before. Not even when I was six or seven. Miguel plays a lot and is really good at it, so I've fooled around with him over the past couple of years kicking the ball, learning to dribble and stuff. That's about all my exposure to playing soccer though. The team we're playing with is a group of his co-workers and the few I've seen play before are really good and take it pretty seriously, so needless to say I'm pretty intimidated. I'm nervous but hoping that this league will help push me to be healthier and get in better shape. A goal to work toward is always pretty helpful. (I can also use all the prayers and encouragement you could send along my way!)

oh lord.

Since I've never played before I had to go purchase new shoes, socks, and shin guards. Savannah doesn't have a Dick's Sporting Goods, Sports Authority, or anything like that, so it was challenging to find cleats. There is one store that carries them and it's a small sports store in the Savannah Mall. Everyone and their brother was there shopping yesterday and they only had three employees working, one of which decided it was a good time to go on break. Once we finally got help we learned that the only women's soccer shoes they carried were not available in my size. Luckily, I was able to fit into little girl's size 6! Phew! This was much better anyways, because they are cuter than the only women's option which were all white with bright blue accents - so they'll basically be a muddy color after you wear them once. The ones I ended up with are black with pink. Yay for pink!

Emma and I headed to the park today to try them out! I was honestly surprised how much easier it is to kick the ball with proper soccer shoes than it is with tennis shoes. They're so light and you can just feel the connection to the ball easier. I made the mistake of going at noon and after I had been at the gym, so I got out of breath really fast. But Emma and I still had fun kicking the ball around. You know it's hot when Emma stops running around and goes to sit down under a table. So we left after that.

I'll write about my first soccer experience after next Monday night's game. Ahh! Cross your fingers for me and say a prayer for me to get back into shape!

It's good to be a dog

A Roll in the Dirt

Gosh, the weather has been sooo nice the past two days! I think it's going to be one of those years where we skip seasons. It's going to hop from Winter to Summer! Right now I'm really looking forward to warmer weather, but not quite ready for the blazing heat of summer.

Emma has really been enjoying the nice weather too! We've stayed at the dog park for a really long time the past two days because it's so pretty out! We're starting to make friends with the regulars and I'm learning a lot about Savannah and dogs from my conversations there. It's interesting how some dogs gel better together than others. Emma has made really good friends with with one dog in particular, Pork Chop. She is almost one year old and loves to run with Emma. Emma has also taught Chops (Chops for short) to dig... Chop's mom, Teresa, isn't too happy about that. They also share the same pink, polka dot collar. They're meant to be friends!

The warmer days have made for lots of thirsty puppies!

Spencer hanging out in one of the holes Emma had just started to dig

Pork Chop digging thanks to Emma teaching her how

Chops drinks with one foot in the bowl, haha... these are the things that make me love dogs.

Look at Chops and Emma, they're doing exactly the same thing!

So looking forward to the weekend! My parents and their dogs, Bailey and Luke, are coming to visit and my mom and the pups are going to walk in the Dog Lovers Walk with me Saturday morning!

9 months!

It's Emma's nine month birthday today! She is still a puppy and has only grown 10 pounds since we've had her. We brought out some of her old toys for her birthday and she is happily playing with her old de-fluffed rabbit.  Here are some pictures from her day at the dog park a couple of days ago.

Under is still good, duh.

"My toy"... "No, MY toy!"

This other dog was also named Emma and is only 7 months old.

Once Emma got the toy she dug a hole and put the toy in it.

And then Emma also had to sit in the hole...

Happy December Dog Days

Good news from Savannah! It's December and it's FINALLY cold! Yay!!!!

Emma and I went to the park this morning, beating out three other dogs who had the same idea... and just in time! Phew!

Fierce looking Emma!

Oooohhhh it's good to be a dog and rolllllll in the grass!

Emma likes to scare hidden birds out of the tall grass... even after they've all flown away she likes to make sure they're all gone!

Beautiful, cold morning!

Running = Happy Doggie

"So much fun mom!"

Boing, boing, boing

Happiness captured

Finding a stick = happiness x 2

In other news, Emma still loves being under, and the Christmas tree has provided a great new spot for being under. However, my poor Christmas tree skirt is wrinkled constantly now. But happy puppy equals puppy not chewing on anything... so that's a win in my book.

I went to the dog park (wag!) and then I got a bath (pout!)

My mom and dad took me to the dog park today!!!! Wag, wag, wag!

Come on dad! The park is this way!

Greeting committee

Dad played football with some of the other dogs

It was a busy day at the park

Under is always good

This was the park bully.

I was the smallest dog, but I kept up and played with all the big dogs!

We didn't like it when our friends left, so we all tried to talk them into staying.

Yay! New friends walking toward the park!

These are my buddies Blue and.... and... I don't remember the other, but I remember how she smells!

I got so dirty and smelly and slobbery at the park. Oh my goodness! It was HEAVEN! But mom and dad made me take a bath when we got back home. Now I smell like puppy shampoo and not dirty dog! Why don't parents ever understand! They just don't get it!

I do not like the water
